The Eurovision Song Contest has completed its lineup of 26 contestants who will compete for this year’s crown, following a second semifinal on 10 May. the first semifinal was held on Tuesday 8 May. Five countries and host Portugal automatically qualified for the final.
A total of 43 countries have taken part in the hugely popular annual event, which is in its 63rd year. This year the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, as the Portuguese contestant, Salvador Sobral, won last years’ event in Ukraine.
As AP reported, performers from Serbia, Moldova, Hungary, Ukraine, Norway, Slovenia, Australia, Sweden, Denmark and The Netherlands gained enough votes to reach the Grand Final. The ‘big five’ sponsors of Eurovison are automatically included, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the UK. Missing out on Saturday’s headline show are Georgia, Latvia, Russia, Romania, Malta, Montenegro, Poland and San Marino.
