The Ebola disease is spreading at its fastest pace so far in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), eight months after it first appeared, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Tuesday, reports Reuters.

Over the past two weeks, a record number of new cases have emerged, representing a sharp setback for efforts to tackle the second-highest outbreak ever, as militia violence and residents' refusal to cooperate with paramedics have impeded access to affected areas.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) announced less than three weeks ago that the Ebola hemorrhagic fever was largely contained, saying it could be eradicated by September. It pointed out that the number of weekly cases fell to half of what it was earlier this year and amounted to about 26 cases.
