150 Missing after Ship Sinks in Congo’s Lake Kivu

DRC President Felix Cheskedi said on Tuesday, April 16th that 150 people were missing after a ship sank in a lake in the east of the country, Reuters has reported.

"I am deeply saddened to see a ship crash on April 15th at Lake Kivu, the initial toll of 150 missing," the president wrote on Twitter.

The boat set off on Monday from the village of Kituku, near the city of Goma on Lake Kivu’s northern shore and sank in South Kivu Province near the territory of Kalehe.

"Three bodies have been recovered, 33 people have been rescued and there are 150 passengers missing," said Delfin Mperembi, an activist from the southern province of Kivu.
