A huge fire broke out in an apartment building in the south-western French city of Toulouse on Thursday January 10th, leaving 22 people injured, the fire service told AFP.
Part of the four-storey building collapsed and guests from a neighbouring hotel were also evacuated as a precautionary measure, said fire lieutenant-colonel Sylvain Gergaud.
"The fire spread very quickly through the lift shaft," he said.
Two firemen were among the casualties, and two of the victims have suffered serious injuries. The blaze was brought under control by daybreak, but the cause of the fire has not yet been announced.
