Barcelona have sacked manager Ernesto Valverde and appointed former Real Betis head coach Quique Setien.
Valverde's job looked on the brink after a poor run saw Barcelona win only one of their past five games. Despite that, they are currently at the top of La Liga, above Real Madrid on goal difference.
Valverde has led Barcelona to consecutive La Liga titles, but he had been under pressure ever since the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final second leg last season.
He managed to hold onto his job in the summer, but his failures in Europe eventually caught up with him.
After a long board meeting, the club released a statement which said, "FC Barcelona and Ernesto Valverde have reached an agreement to terminate the contract that united both parties," AFP reported.
They also confirmed the appointment of Setien in the same statement and praised his experience as a manager. Setien will manage his first game at the club next Sunday as Barcelona host Granada at the Camp Nou.
