A UK maritime safety group warned on Thursday, June 13th, of an unspecified incident has taken place in the Gulf of Oman near Iran's coast, the warning urges “extreme caution” amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, reported AP.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, which is run by the British navy, spread out the alert on early Thursday without mentioning further details.
The S. Navy's Bahrain-based 5th Fleet did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Iranian media sources claimed that an explosion targeted two giant oil tankers in Oman sea, however, the news is not confirmed yet.
Thursday's maritime alert comes after what the US has described as Iranian attacks on four oil tankers nearby, off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. Iran has denied being involved.
