Berlin's Constitutional Court on Wednesday February 20th rejected a lawsuit, against the mayor of Berlin, filed by Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany Party (AfD), accusing him of unlawfully supporting protests against it.
In May, some 25,000 people demonstrated in Berlin against a rally of 5,000 followers of the (AfD). At the time, Mayor Michael Mueller of the centre-left, tweeted support for the counter-protest, saying it was an "impressive signal for democracy and freedom, against racism."
The court rejected the lawsuit and ruled that Mueller did not criticise or explicitly refer to the (AfD).
On his Twitter account, the mayor said the court's decision helped promote "democratic decision-building on social media."
