Cuban doctors deployed along the border with Somalia were evacuated following the kidnapping of two of their team last week, AP reported on Monday April 15th, quoting Kenyan officials.

The evacuation of the doctors from Lamu was prompted by their shock after the abduction of their colleagues, according to the health official in Lamu county, Anne Gathoni.

The two doctors were kidnapped in Mandera county on Friday April 12th, and a police guard was killed.

Suspected al-Shabab extremists are believed to have carried out the kidnapping in Kenya, where the group has vowed revenge for Kenyan troops fighting extremists inside Somalia.
