Following series of tax reforms and rising fuel prices, Ecuador's President Lenin Moreno declared a state of emergency on Thursday, October 3rd, as people took to the streets denouncing the new laws. The upcoming fiscal reform package is projected at $2 billion annually, Reuters reported.

Protesters shouted, "Down with the package!" referring to new tax reforms imposed by Moreno’s government this week which also include the end of subsidized fuel.
