Egypt's foreign ministry on Sunday May 12th condemned the act of sabotage against four ships near the United Arab Emirates' territorial waters, saying it stands by that country, according to Reuters.

In a statement, the ministry said it "condemned all acts that would harm the national security of the UAE" and "stressed the solidarity of the Egyptian government and people with the UAE in confronting all the challenges it may face."

Four commercial ships were subjected to sabotage operations Sunday, May 12th, near UAE territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman, east of Fujairah, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) announced.

The Ministry said that the concerned authorities have taken all necessary measures, and are investigating the incident in cooperation with local and international bodies, according to WAM.

It said no injuries or fatalities on board the vessels were reported, as well as no spillage of harmful chemicals or fuel found.

The MOFAIC statement condemned the acts of sabotage that targets commercial or civilian vessels, affirming that threatening the safety and lives of those on board is a serious development. It called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to prevent such actions by parties attempting to undermine maritime traffic safety and security.

The Ministry also described as ‘baseless and unfounded’ rumors spread earlier Sunday of incidents taking place within the Port of Fujairah, saying that operations within the port were underway as normal, without any interruption.
