The third edition of El-Gouna Film Festival kicked off on Thursday, September 19th in the Red Sea resort town of El-Gouna, Egypt, where 80 films are set to be displayed, Egypt’s local media reported.
The festival extends a week and will conclude on September 27th. Numerous celebrities and filmmakers are attending the festival.
The festival’s opening was attended by renowned Egyptian businessman and festival founder Naguib Sawiris, festival co-founder Bushra Abdallah Rozza, and Orascom Development Holding CEO Khaled Bichara, Egypt’s state-run Al-Ahram reported. Orascom is a leading global engineering and construction contractor.
The festival reportedly aims at allowing cultural exchange by displaying a wide variety of films and allowing filmmakers from around the world to meet with other filmmakers in the region.
Three competitions will take place during the festival: the Feature Narrative Competition, the Feature Documentary Competition, and the Short Film Competition.
