Eight al-Shabab militants have been killed in a US airstrike just south of Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
The airstrike targeted the militants near Gandarshe, which is a coastal area near Mogadishu, according to a statement from US Africa Command, who said no civilians were involved.
The latest airstrike on Saturday 15th December is one of about 40 that have been undertaken against the radical Islamist al-Shabab group, which is believed to have links with al-Qaida. The group controls parts of rural southern and central Somalia and continues to stage deadly attacks in Mogadishu and other cities.
According to AP, US airstrikes against the group have increased dramatically since US President Donald Trump came into office, who approved expanded military operations in the region.
