The captain of a palm oil tanker has detained six activists who boarded his vessel in the Gulf of Cadiz, near Spain on November 16th.The act was confirmed in a Greenpeace statement. The statement added that the palm oil originated from Indonesia. Once on board the tanker “Stolt Tenacity”, bound for Rotterdam, the group unfurled "Save our Rainforest" and "Drop Dirty Palm Oil" banners.
The activists come from Indonesia, Germany, Britain, France, Canada and the United States. They are all being detained in a cabin on board the ship.
According to AP, palm oil is used in a wide array of consumer goods, from makeup to snacks. Greenpeace said the Stolt Tenacity's captain was informed in advance that the protest, staged on November 16th, would be peaceful.
