Gunmen Close Down an Oil Field in Southwestern Libya

The National Oil Corporation of Libya announced on Monday that an armed group closed one of the largest oil fields in the south-west of the country.

In a statement posted on its website, the company explained that it had announced the status of "force majeure" in the oil field operated by the company "Acacus" in cooperation with the National Foundation and companies Repsol Spanish and Total French, "OMV" Austrian and "Statoil" Norway.

The oil field known as “Sharara” is located in the area of Ubari, about 900 km south of Tripoli, one of the largest oil fields in Libya and produces 315 thousand barrels per day out of more than one million barrels is the country's total production, according to the Foundation.
