The website of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported on Sunday December 16th that a general had allegedly accidentally killed himself while cleaning a gun, according to AP.
General Ghodratollah Mansouri allegedly shot himself in the head by accident while cleaning his pistol. Since 2014, Mansouri had been a regional commander of the Revolutionary Guard’s ground forces in the northeastern city of Mashhad, some 900 kilometres east of the capital, Tehran.
The unit Mansouri commanded is based in Khorasan-Razavi Province, bordering Afghanistan, with Mashad as its capital, Radio Farada reported. The Commander in Chief of IRGC, General Mohammad Ali Jafari, has issued a statement expressing condolences.
