Britain's Prime Minister said he would send a Brexit delay request letter to the European Union Council on Saturday October 19th, in a telephone call with EU Council President Donald Tusk, an EU source told AFP.

British lawmakers earlier on Saturday voted for a proposal forcing the prime minister to seek Brexit delay from the EU, arguing that more time is required to study the contents of the deal reached.

Granting Britain a delay, however, needs the approval of all EU member states.

The EU source said Johnson affirmed that he will send the letter to Tusk within the day, adding that Tusk will consult with EU leaders on the next steps but this "may take a few days."
