In his New Year letter, Russian President Putin told US President Trump that the Kremlin is "open to dialogue" on the many issues blocking bilateral relations.

According to AFP, the letter to Trump was among holidays greetings sent by Putin to other world leaders, each reflects a bilateral theme. "Russia-US relations are the most important factor behind ensuring strategic stability and international security." Putin said in his letter to Trump.

In his letter to Syrian President Bashar Assad, Putin said that Russia will continue to provide all-around assistance to the government and people of Syria in their fight against terrorism and efforts to protect state sovereignty and territorial integrity," wishing the Syrian people "the earliest return to peaceful and prosperous life."

Moscow held talks with Turkey on December 29th, during which the two countries agreed to co-operate in northern Syria after Trump announced the withdrawal of US troops from Syrian territory.
