The Lebanese Progressive Socialist Party said on Monday October 21st that they had demanded that Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil should resign in view of the “sectarian, provocative” statements he has made, which have sparked a great deal of anger.
Bassil said on Friday that the alternative to the current government would be much worse and would mean chaos and sedition, according to Saudi news channel Al Arabiya.
The party said in a statement that President Michel Aoun should dismiss his foreign minister if he wanted to remain in power.
Commenting on the ongoing Cabinet meeting, the party said preliminary indications are not positive so far.
The Cabinet is reported to have endorsed 17 items of the Reform Charter which Prime Minister Saad Hariri and the president have approved. The Reforms included cutting the payroll of all ministers and general managers, the cancellation of all financial allocations of parliament members, imposing a 25% tax on banks and insurance companies and a salary cap for the military that does not exceed that of ministers, according to Sky News.
