Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar announced on Thursday, December 12th the launch of a “decisive battle” to liberate Tripoli from armed militants and terrorist organisations.
“Today, we announce the decisive battle and the march towards the capital city to break its chains and liberate it,” Haftar said in a statement, according to Sky News Arabia.
“The moment of the sweeping intrusion every Libyan is eagerly anticipating, and which our own people in Tripoli are looking forward to, has come to liberate them from the terrorists who settled in their soil and used it as a den for criminals,” he added.
Haftar ordered his LNA troops to “advance towards your targets to break the chain and champion those oppressed. I urge you to respect the sanctity of homes and private as well as public properties, and observe the principles of international human laws.”
Field Marshal Haftar also urged the youth who took up arms against the LNA – dimmed by the calls of misguided individuals – to stay home for their own safety.
Head of the LNA’s Doctrine Command Department, Brigadier General Khaled Al-Mahjoub, said the size of Turkish and Qatari arms depots destroyed by the LNA is “enormous,” adding that the militias in Tripoli have collapsed and that Haftar has launched the second phase of the operations to liberate the capital Tripoli from armed terrorist groups.
