Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-0 at Anfield on April 14th thanks to second-half goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Liverpool had the first big chance of the game just five minutes in as Mane's cross set up Salah who volleyed straight at Chelsea goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga. In the 20th minute Eden Hazard ran into the Liverpool area but his shot from a tight angle was saved by Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson.

Jordan Henderson had a shot deflected over the bar by David Luiz just before the half-hour mark. Mane fired an effort wide of the goal in the 38th minute after a run and pass from Salah.

Half-time Score: Liverpool 0- Chelsea 0.

The game burst into life early in the second-half as Mane broke the deadlock. The Senegalese forward headed into the net from Henderson's cross in the 50th minute to put his side ahead. A few minutes later Salah cut in from the right hand side and fired a stunning strike into the top corner of the net from 25 yards to double Liverpool's lead.

The Reds were running rampant as Roberto Firmino struck a shot just wide of the goal before the hour mark as the home side looked for a third goal. Chelsea came within inches of pulling a goal back a minute later as Luiz's ball over the top found Hazard who had a clear goal but saw his shot bounce off the post.

The Belgian forward had another golden opportunity after picking up Willian's cross from the right but shot straight at Alisson. The west London side were piling on the pressure as the game continued, with Liverpool on the counter-attack but both sides seemed to be lacking in the final stages. Both Firmino and Mane went close late on in the match but the hosts, Liverpool, held on for a crucial victory.

The victory takes Liverpool back to the top of the table two points clear of Manchester City, who have a game in hand. Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp talked to the BBC after the game and spoke about Salah's "wonder goal." "I had the best view [of Salah's goal]. I saw earlier than most people that it would go in. What a finish, what a shot! But the whole move around it. Wow, brilliant."

He also explained what he saw as the difference between his side's first and second half performance and his praised his goalkeeper. "In the first half we played against the wind, in the second half we had the wind at our backs. So we used that obviously. Then at 2-0 up, there was a little system change from the opponent, with Hazard moving to the left and [Gonzalo] Higuain upfront. "But then we are completely on our bikes from 70 minutes, defending, tackling, counter-attacking. Then they had three moments but Alisson was there. He saved our life in those moments."

Chelsea Boss Maurizio Sarri was also happy with his side's performance despite the defeat "I think we played very well in the first half, we defended very well. We conceded nothing," he said. He went on, "I am happy with the performance, because in my opinion we played a good match against a very good, strong opponent." "I think now we are going the right way, we are improving, because three months ago we weren't able to stay in this kind of match but today we played well," he added. "And then we were unlucky after the second goal because we reacted very well and had three goal opportunities in three minutes," he concluded.

Final Score: Liverpool 2 - Chelsea 0
