French President Emmanuel Macaron announced on Monday that the minimum wage would be raised by 100 euros ($113) a month from next year, making a big concession to the "yellow vests" protest movement that has rocked France in recent weeks.

The minimum wage in France is 1,498 euros per month before tax and 1185 euros after deducting.

Macron cut a large part of his government's pension increases.

In a speech to the nation, the 40-year-old French president adopted a more modest tone than usual in an attempt to counter criticism of his style of government.
