Tottenham signed a deal with Mourinho until 2023 to replace Mauricio Pochettino, who was sacked following a disappointing start to the new season. Mourinho took charge of his first training session at Tottenham on Thursday afternoon.
The former Manchester United, Inter Milan and Chelsea boss Mourinho paid tribute to the work done by predecessor Pochettino at his first press conference since replacing the Argentine at Spurs.
“I’ve been smiling for two days. First of all, and I do it with a bit of sadness, I have to speak about Mauricio,” Mourinho said.
Mourinho then congratulated Pochettino for the work that he did.
“He [Pochettino] can come when he wants, when he misses the players, when he misses the players that he worked with. The door is always open for him”, Mourinho added.
The Spurs are struggling during the ongoing season of the English Premier League as they are 14th in the table with 14 points after playing 12 games this season.
Tottenham only won three games and lost four while they drew in five games, causing management to change their minds of keeping Pochettino as their tactician.
