Norwegian police announced on Thursday they had detonated a potentially devastating bomb sent to a station in a rare incident in the country, reports AFP.
The police station in southeastern Oslo was evacuated on Wednesday morning after an employee was suspected of being expelled. It was found that the package contained an improvised explosive device that was supposed to explode when opened.
"It's a real bomb that could have targeted people," police commissioner Stephen Hassaldal told a news conference. "It is a very serious crime and we see an attack on the police that could have caused casualties," he said.
Explosives experts were able to neutralize the device.
