Ten New York City teenagers required medical assistance after a caustic substance was thrown over them. The teens were attending a party in a housing complex when someone threw the chemical onto them from above. The incident, which took place on May 4th, resulted in the teens being taken to hospital for treatment. Local authorities are investigating the incident, which happened in a courtyard located off Third Street in Manhattan's East Village.
The victims range in age from 15 to 18 and reported burns to their skin and irritation . According to AP, the police have not yet determined from where the substance was thrown or what it was. So far, officers think the chemical may have been drain cleaner or something similar.
Valerie Vail told The New York Times that her daughter suffered coin-sized burns on her back, chest and arms. Her daughter is a high-school sophomore. The newspaper said some residents had called the police to complain about noise from the large party.
