Uber unveiled on Thursday, September 26th a new version of its smartphone app that intertwines services from shared rides to public transit schedules and adds more security features, according to AFP.
The objective of the upgraded app is to let Uber users see and ideally benefit from the company's options for getting around or having restaurant meals delivered.
Asked about the new features, Uber Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi said, "We want Uber to be the operating system for your everyday life: however you want to move around your city, and whatever you need, we want Uber to be your go-to app", Forbes.com reported.
"Uber started with on-demand rides, but we've grown to offer access to everything from food delivery to electric bikes and scooters," he added.
Uber said the food delivery, rides, and other options are displayed in the new application and all have been tested in hundreds of cities in the US and other countries.
New security features have also been ramped up by Uber by adding an option for people awaiting rides to receive a code they can ask drivers to confirm to be sure the vehicle they are about to get in is indeed the one sent for them by the service.
