A court in Panama has acquitted former president Ricardo Martinelli of spy charges he had faced, that he had spied on politicians, journalists and others, during his five-year term.

The court ordered releasing Martinelli, who served as president between 2009 and 2014, and had been charged with spying on 150 people.

This comes as prosecutors "failed to prove their theory," the verdict, read by one of the judges involved, said, adding that the accusations also were faced by "reasonable doubts."
