Paul Pogba has hinted that he may leave Manchester United this summer. The French World Cup winner has been linked with a move to Real Madrid throughout the season, and AFP has reported that he suggested that the timing might be right for a move away from United.

"There is a lot of talking and a lot of thinking," the 26-year-old told reporters in Tokyo on Sunday, June 16th. "I have been for three years in Manchester and have been doing great, some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody and like everywhere else.

"I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else. I am thinking of this, to have a new challenge somewhere else."

Pogba first left Manchester United for Juventus in 2012 after failing to break into the United team. He established himself as a top player at Juventus where he won four consecutive Serie A titles, as well as two Coppa Italia cups. He re-joined Man Utd in 2016 for what was at the time a world record fee of £89 million.

Since joining United he has failed to kick on and establish himself as one of the best players in the world. He has shown flashes of brilliance but has developed a reputation as somewhat of a luxury player, often criticised for his defensive fragilities.

In terms of stats, last season was by far Pogba’s best season at the club. He finished as top scorer, scoring 16 goals and had a total of 11 assists. Despite this, the Red Devils fell well short of the goals as they finished sixth and ended the season trophy- less.

Pogba himself ended the season poorly and was berated by United fans as he went to applaud them following the defeat at Cardiff in the final game of the season.

Real manager Zinedine Zidane is known to be a fan of the 26-year-old, but United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said in April that he expects Pogba to stay at the club next season.

Regardless of whether Pogba stays or leaves, United are expected to make a lot of changes this summer. They have already signed Swansea forward Daniel James, and have been linked with moves for centre-backs Harry Maguire and Issa Diop.
