Oregon police officers have shot and killed an armed man at a middle school in Eugene, Oregon. Early reports indicate the man was in the middle of a custody dispute when the incident occurred.
The man was being escorted from Cascade Middle School on Friday January 11th by police officers when he started struggling and produced a firearm. No one else was injured in the shooting.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Jennifer Bills initially said the shooting was inside the school, but footage from later in the day showed a covered body lying just outside the entrance to the school. As a result of the shooting, students were locked inside their classrooms and the school was placed on lock-down for nearly four hours.
By the afternoon, police officers began escorting children from the school to a nearby church, where parents had gathered.
According to AP, local police have not yet revealed the name of the victim.
