Muhannad al-Kaabi, an academic and activist coordinating protesters in Karbala in central Iraqi, was wounded as an explosive device that was placed inside his vehicle detonated, Iraqi media reported, citing local sources.
Pictures circulated on social media showed Kaabi’s car almost completely destroyed. Kaabi, who appeared injured in photos, was moved to a nearby hospital.
Around 500 people were killed and over 17,000 Iraqis were injured since anti-regime protests in Iraqi have started in October. Although Prime Minister Adel Abd al-Mahdi’s already resigned, protested continued calling for reforms.
