Heavy rains in Sudan caused widespread flooding that killed at least seven people in the centre of the country on Tuesday August 13th, the state news agency reported.

"Seven citizens were killed, two injured and ten villages were affected by rain and flooding in Jazira state," Sudan News Agency SUNA reported.

In the capital Khartoum, heavy rains that lasted for days destroyed hundreds of homes.

At least six other people have been killed in the past week in Jazira and the western region of Darfur, where thousands have been affected by the floods.
