The doctor treating a 23-year old rape victim in New Delhi said on Saturday December 7th she had died of cardiac arrest after she was set ablaze by several men, including her alleged rapist, Reuters reported.
The victim suffered 95% burns, Shalabh Kumar, her doctor and the head of burns and plastic department at New Delhi's Safdarjung hospital told Reuters.
He added that even her wind pipe was burnt and that her lungs had been filled by toxic fumes.
The victim lodged a complaint against her alleged rapist in December last year, with police in Unnao district in India's Uttar Pradesh state. She was attacked after the man was released on bail.
On her way to attend a court hearing over her case, the gang of men overwhelmed her with kerosene and set her ablaze.
