Real Madrid and Barcelona will face easy missions in the 32nd round of the Copa del Rey after a fairytale draw on Tuesday, January 14th, as the two sides have been drawn to face third-tier opposition.
Barcelona, who claimed the Copa del Rey title four years in a row between 2015 and 2018, will face third-tier team Ibiza, while 13-time European champions Real Madrid will play Unionistas de Salamanca.
Unionistas were founded by a group of supporters in 2013 after UD Salamanca went out of business as the team entered the sixth tier of Spanish football in 2014, a few months after Real Madrid had just won the Champions League.
According to the tournament's rules, Real Madrid will play away, and Barcelona will travel to face Segunda B team Ibiza.
The other two teams in the top tier of Spain’s La Liga, Atletico Madrid and Valencia, also are expected to face easy tasks in the Copa del Rey after Tuesday's draw.
Atletico Madrid have been drawn to face Cultural Leonesa, while Valencia will play Logrones.
All the Copa del Rey ties will be played between January 21st and 23rd.
