South Korea will release three North Koreans who crossed the sea border on board a fishing boat, Reuters has reported citing South Korea's defence ministry, on Monday, 29th July.
North Korean fishing vessels often violate the inter-Korean maritime border or stray into South Korea.
Officials said the South Korean authorities had intercepted the ship that crossed the border on Saturday because a white flag was attached to the ship's mast, a possible sign that they wanted to defect from North Korea.
The North Koreans, who were on board the ship during questioning, said they had crossed the border by mistake and wanted to return home.
South Korea informed Pyongyang that the crew had left a South Korean port for North Korea of their own accord and would be returning later on Monday, the ministry of unification for inter-Korean relations said in a statement.
