At least six migrants were confirmed dead on Tuesday, June 11th, after their boat capsized close to the Greek island of Lesbos, according to the coastguard, AFP has reported.
The operation was assisted by a rescue boat provided by the European Union. 57 people were rescued.
Hundreds of refugees seeking a better life in Europe have died this year trying to cross the Mediterranean.
According to AFP, Greece currently hosts around 70,000 refugees and migrants who fled their countries, troubled with violence. Most are Syrian.
