Iranian oil tanker Adrian Darya 1, which had been held by Gibraltar authorities on suspicion of smuggling oil to Syria, docked on the Mediterranean coast and unloaded its cargo, a foreign ministry spokesman said, according to IRNA.
Satellite photos earlier showed the tanker, formerly known as Grace 1, off Syria’s Tartus port.
The satellite images obtained by the AP from Maxar Technologies, matched the pictures earlier published by US national security adviser John Bolton on Twitter.
“Anyone who said the Adrian Darya-1 wasn’t headed to #Syria is in denial,” Bolton had tweeted.
The US Treasury Department on August 30th decided to blacklist Adrian Darya 1, after it had been released by Gibraltar authorities following a Gibraltar Supreme Court ruling.
The US Treasury also sanctioned the captain of the tanker, two weeks after Gibraltar authorities had declined a US request to seize the tanker, which had been already held for over 40 days.
