Three people were killed in an explosion in a southern Nepal town on Saturday December 14th according to a police statement.
Two civilians and one police officer were the victims of the explosion which took place in Mahendranagar town, south Nepal.
The explosion occurred after a house owner found a suspicious device planted at the entrance gate of his house and called the police. The officers were checking the device when it exploded.
The dead included father and son Rajesh Shah (45) and Ananda Shah (25), and the police officer, Amir Kumar Dahal, injured in the blast, also succumbed to his injuries, Chief District Officer Pradeep Raj Kandel informed The Asian News International (ANI) over the phone.
Rajesh Shah's 19-year-old daughter Anjali and 15-year-old son Prakash, along with a police constable, Rijnath Kumar Mahato, are also said to be injured in the blast. They have been transferred to BP Koirala Hospital in Dharan on Saturday December 14th. Their condition is said to be critical.
The authorities were investigating the explosion but there were no immediate suspects. No one has claimed responsibility.
The police did not issue any statements regarding the planted device which had caused the deadly explosion, and no group has claimed responsibility.
