Tunisia’s newly elected President Kais Saied said the presidential election has written a new history in the North African country and will lead to a revolution with a new concept.
Conservative academic Saied won in Tunisia's presidential runoff, beating his rival, media magnate Nabil Karoui.
Saied scooped almost 77% of the vote, compared to 23% for Karoui.
In his first speech after a landslide victory, Saied praised the Tunisian people for making history and giving a lesson to the whole world.
“It’s a revolution in a new concept, constitutional revolution. I can confirm that I’ll work with honesty to build a new Tunisia. I know it will be a tough task given the difficult situation economically, but we will work hard to rebuild the country,” Saied continued.
He added that Palestine will be a “top priority” for his government.
