The Rohingya humanitarian crisis in Myanmar which erupted in 2017 with the persecution of the Muslim Rohingya minority and resulted in more than 900 000 Rohingya being displaced. The crisis has reived humanitarian efforts by several international organisations, however oftentimes these donations and support campaigns have been rather short-term oriented.
The UAE has now launched the campaign "UAE for Rohingya Women and Children" to support those who are the most vulnerable among the Rohingya refugees, namely women and children. Under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai; His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; and the follow up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC.
A television campaign is launched to raise monetary donations, which then will be then be invested in long-term relief initiatives such as investment in education, providing training as well as enhancing the founding of female-run businesses.
