The USS Zumwalt, a new guided missile destroyer that is among the US Navy’s latest class of warships, has arrived in Pearl Harbour.
The ship’s arrival on Tuesday, April 2nd, marks the longest voyage of the vessel that was launched in October 2013s, officials said.
The 186-metre long guided-missile destroyer is fitted with state-of-the-art stealth features not seen before on ships of this size. The Zumwalt departed its home port of San Diego on March 8th for its first operational voyage.
Before arriving in Honolulu, the Zumwalt first called in at the port of Esquimalt, in British Columbia, before heading to the port of Ketchikan in Alaska.
Officials say the journey from Alaska to Pearl Harbor was the farthest foray into the Pacific for the ship.
As reported by AP, officials said the Zumwalt cost about four billion dollars to build and has a crew of 175. The vessel is 30 metres longer and four metres wider than the previous class of destroyer.
