A US soldier has died in what is being described as a non-combat incident that occurred in Syria.
The soldier’s death was announced on Monday, April 29th. No further information was provided, pending the notification of the soldier’s next of kin. The statement, which was released by the US-led coalition fighting Isis in Syria said more information would be forthcoming as and when appropriate.
According to AP, the US military currently has some 2,000 troops stationed in northern Syria. The soldiers have been there for several years now, assisting and advising local partners in the fight against Isis.
US President Donald Trump said in December that he intended to withdraw all American forces from Syria. This statement was later amended to allow the US to maintain a small force in the country for now.
