The United States threatened on Monday, December 3rd, to impose 100 percent tariffs on French goods estimated at $2.4billion in retaliation for what the US called “discriminatory” digital service tax, reported AFP.

The new tariffs will target French wine and cheese among a list of other goods, as the new digital service tax was found harmful for American tech companies such as Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon.

USTR Robert Lighthizer warned that Washington is considering widening the investigation to look into similar taxes in Austria, Italy, and Turkey.
