Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Thursday May 23rd that Tehran will not surrender to US pressure and will not give up on its goals even if it is bombed. The comment come amid high tension between US and Iran.
Rouhani was quoted by state news agency IRNA as telling a ceremony in commemoration of the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s: "We need resistance, so our enemies know if they bomb our land, and if our children are killed, wounded or arrested, we will not give up on our goals for the independence of our country and our pride."
Acting US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan on Thursday confirmed that the Pentagon was considering sending additional US troops to the Middle East as one of the ways to bolster protection for American forces. The United States says the steps are aimed at preventing conflict by deterring any dangerous activity by Iran or Iran-backed forces.
Tensions between Tehran and Washington have been steadily escalating in recent weeks, as US President Donald Trump tightens sanctions meant to cut off Iran's ability to sell oil on global markets. The Trump administration is also warning of possible Iranian plots against America and its allies.
