Jonathan Hoffman, Assistant Secretary of Defence for Public Affairs and Chief Pentagon spokesperson, and Secretary of Defence Mark Esper have given a statement at a news conference at the Pentagon late Thursday, October 3rd.
In his statement to the reporters, Hoffman denied any attempt from the US government to eavesdrop on the controversial phone conversation between President Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart.
He then went on to confirm that US forces are more than capable of protecting the American citizens currently living in Iraq.
Meanwhile, Secretary Esper affirmed to the press that there have been no Americans lost among the causalities following the missile attack on the Green Zone in Baghdad.
The US government is currently focusing on defeating Isis and wiping them completely out from the Syrian territories, he added.
Esper then explained that Iran does not represent a major security threat in the Arab region and that the US military is fully equipped and ready to deter and fight off any possible Iranian aggression.
In a previous conference that took place on September 26th, Hoffman made it clear that the US stands in solidarity with Saudi Arabia following the Saudi oil attacks, saying, "In light of recent attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and at their invitation, Secretary of Defence Mark T. Esper announced that the US would deploy the following equipment to the kingdom: One Patriot Battery, Four Sentinel RADARs, and an approximately 200 support personnel.”
He explained that these steps are a clear demonstration of the US commitment to regional partners and to seeking security and stability in the Middle East.
“Other countries have called out Iranian misadventures in the region, and we look for them to contribute assets in an international effort to reinforce Saudi Arabia's defence,” Esper said, according to the Department of Defence.
