During the holy month of Ramadan, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi hosts a
public iftar, which feeds more than 30,000 people daily. In Ramadan more than a million
visitors come to the mosque to break the fast together and to observe the night prayers
(tarawih). The iftar is a wonderful incorporation of the spiritual values of compassion,
empathy and giving, which linger in the air throughout the month of Ramadan. The iftar is
also facilitated by volunteers who, through the jusour initiative, help with distribution of the
food boxes in the Ramadan tents and in the gardens in front of the mosque.
