Al-Shabab gunmen have shot and killed two Somali soldiers in Mogadishu.
The shooting took place early on Wednesday morning, January 9th, at Ex-Control Afgoye junction in the capital, Mogadishu.
Al-Shabab’s intelligence wing known as Amniyaat often conducts assassinations targeting soldiers and government officials in Mogadishu and around the country.
The al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab group, which is fighting to overthrow the Somali government, confirmed its fighters killed the two soldiers, according to its mouthpiece Radio Andalus.
Al-Shabab was driven out of the capital in 2011 but it is still capable of conducting high-profile attacks and bombings in Mogadishu and other major towns. It controls large swathes of land in rural Somalia.
