Egypt’s Olympic national football team have defeated their counterpart Ghana 3-2 in the second round of Group A games of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, November 11th to cement their place in the group’s lead.
Ghana started the game in superb performance as they invaded a wave of strikes against Egypt’s area and opened the score only six minutes from the start when Yaw Yeboah found the net after converting a brilliant pass from the left wing to the net, giving his side an early lead.
The young Pharaohs players did their best to return to the game again as they lost two chances at scoring by striker Salah Mohsen, whose header came over the bar, and winger Ramadan Sobhi, whose shot was saved by Ghana’s goalkeeper to change the ball into corner kick.
Zamalek forward Mostafa Mohamed headed the equaliser for Egypt after meeting a powerful pass from left winger Ahmed Aboul-Fotouh in the 18th minute.
Al-Ahly winger Ramadan Sobhi was close to snatching a lead for Egypt four minutes before the break when he sent a powerful strike from outside the area, but Ghana’s keeper Kwame Baah saved his net.
The referee blew his half-time whistle after adding only one minute of injury time, to finish the first half with a 1-1 draw between the two sides.
In the second half, the Black Stars again snatched an early lead when Samuel Obeng seized a short pass from Egypt defender Mohamed Abdel-Salam to round Egypt’s keeper and score in an empty net seven minutes after the break.
The young Pharaohs were close to equalising when Sobhi made a superb feint inside the area and sent a cross ball from the left wing, but Mostafa Mohamed struck it into the keeper’s hands.
However, Sobhi then equalised for Egypt after making a brilliant follow-up inside the area after the keeper failed to control the ball following Mohamed’s attempt.
El-Gouna forward Ahmed Yasser Rayan headed the victory for Egypt one minute before the final whistle after receiving a corner from the left wing by Sobhi to finish the game with a 3-2 victory for Egypt.
