Tyson Fury beats Tom Schwarz by second round TKO at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, June 16th. The British fighter then called out the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder for a rematch.
After an uneventful first round, Fury stepped up the tempo at the beginning of the second round, landing multiple left hands, which blooded Schwarz’s nose. The former world champion looked in complete control as he continued land shots on his German opponent.
A combination from Fury drooped Schwarz to the canvas towards the end of the round. He managed to get to his feet, but Fury unleashed a barrage of punches forcing the referee to jump in and stop the fight.
After the fight, AFP reported that Fury said, "The key tonight was to enjoy myself." He continued, "I used the jab, I was slipping and sliding."
"I came here to have fun and put on a show for Las Vegas and I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did," added Fury, who had entered the ring wearing a Stars and Stripes-themed costume to the strains of James Brown's "Living in America".
Fury and Wilder fought to a thrilling draw last December. Many observers thought that the British fighter was unlucky not to be given the win. But Fury added he was seeking a rematch with the Alabama-born fighter early next year. "What's next? Next year we're going to hunt down Deontay Wilder for that green belt."
