General Motors has temporarily laid off 6,000 workers in Mexico due a US labor strike that has disrupted production at two Mexican plants that make pickup trucks, a GM spokesman said on Tuesday, October 1st, AFP has reported.

The action affects the Silao assembly and transmission plants in central Mexico, which work on GMC and Chevrolet pickup trucks. Nearly 50,000 US workers are on strike at GM due to a United Auto Workers strike now in its third week.

A GM spokesman said the Silao workers are expected to return to work after the strike.
