The Greek government announced the resignation of Foreign Minister Nikolaos Kotzias Wednesday amid a government dispute over the controversial agreement with Macedonia over name change, reports AFP.

"Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras accepted the resignation of the foreign minister," the prime minister's office said in a statement, adding that Tsipras himself would take over the ministry.

A dispute broke out Tuesday at a government meeting between Kotzias and Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, who is also a partner in the government coalition.

Kammenos, head of the independent Greek National Party, threatened to leave the government coalition in protest over changing Macedonia’s name to "North Macedonia".
