Controversial Iran's oil tanker Adrian Darya 1, formerly seized by Gibraltar authorities on suspicion of illegally transferring oil to Syria, was identified by satellite near Syria's Tartus port, the Associated Press reported on Saturday September 7th.
The satellite images obtained by the AP from Maxar Technologies, matched the pictures earlier published by US national security adviser John Bolton on Twitter.
“Anyone who said the Adrian Darya-1 wasn’t headed to #Syria is in denial,” Bolton had tweeted.
The US Treasury Department on August 30th decided to blacklist Adrian Darya 1, after it had been released by Gibraltar authorities following a Gibraltar Supreme Court ruling.
The US Treasury also sanctioned the captain of the tanker, two weeks after Gibraltar authorities had declined a US request to seize the tanker, which had been already held for over 40 days.
